Home made test equipments (updated April 25, 2012)

  ==> NEW : A +6 to +11 dBm Low Phase noise Xtal Oscillator.  Created April 25, 2012
This crystal oscillator may be used when a clean and stable signal is needed : as a L.O signal for a diodes mixer or as a reference when performing some  measurements.  (more informations).

  SAN2PC : A Spectrum Analyzer to PC interface.  Updated April 30, 2010
With this low cost unit, the user of an old Spectrum Analyzer can digitize analog spectrum data and send it  to a PC via  the RS232 line. It is  then possible to  display this spectrum on the PC screen and to print it if needed. (more  informations)

How I built my N2PK Vector Network Analyzer.  October 25, 2007
I present here the different stages of  construction of this wonderful equipment, illustrated by some pictures. (more  informations)

InLine RF Sampler. Dec 2, 2006
When this sampler is inserted between a transmitter and  the terminating load it provides you with a low power level   image of the RF  circulating in the coaxial line. The model described uses a microstrip line etched on epoxy PCB and  can be used up to 500 MHz with an error  less than 0.5 dB. (more informations)

DDS Function Generator.
This function generator uses an AD9834 DDS ( more about DDS here) chip controlled by a PIC 16F876l. Frequency ranges from 0.01 Hz to 4 MHz with a 0.01 Hz resolution. Sinusoidal, triangle and square waveforms are available.   (more informations)

Audio Frequency Two Tones Generator.
This is a two tones generator used for IMD measurements of SSB transmitters signals. The level of each tone is adjustable and the output level of the composite signal is controlled by a step attenuator and a fine control. In order to mitigate any spurious 50Hz, the power supply is located in a remote box  (more informations)

Dual Radio Frequency Generator.
IMD receivers measurements are conducted by mean of this dual frequency RF generator. It contains two crystal controlled high purity oscillators working in the 14 MHz band : their frequencies are separated by 20 kHz (more infos) .
An external home made hybrid combiner can be connected to the two outputs of this generator.

Step Attenuator.
This is an home made 0-70 dB attenuator usable from DC to 400 MHz (-3dB) (click here for more infos )

Voltage Controlled Attenuator.
This attenuator is a voltage controlled one : driven by a pulse generator, it is very useful  for adjustment of the time response of  receiver's AGC  (more infos) .

Micro Powermeter.
The Analog Devices AD8307 is the heart of this RF/VHF powermeter : designed from ideas presented by several authors (Hayward, Bolch,...) it allows low level measurements up to the VHF bands.
